Gary Coleman (R.I.P.) It's A Cold Ass World
Vintage Gary Coleman @Tha Top of his Game
I remember Different Strokes tha same as everybody else. Tha story of Tha Rich White man that descended from tha lofty heights of aristocratic living to save two little Niggas from extreme poverty and tha Hood. Now that I think about it, I wonder did that show make us all feel as though we could get scooped up by a Rich White Man and have a Great life lol.
Gary Coleman as “Arnold” in that first season of Different Strokes was tha MAN at 3 tall. Able to deliver clever lines with great timing, he had tha great advantage of appearing much younger than he really was which made him seem extremely smart for his age. I think his growth issues had something to do with Kidney problems, I think he had two Kidney transplants throughout his life, I think that Nigga had one when he was 5 years old. This size issue for him was a gift and a curse, a Gift in tha beginning and a curse in tha end.
From what I can remember about Different Strokes it seemed like tha early seasons were tha best. But as we all were confronted with “Arnold” being forced to grow up, we were confronted with tha reality that maybe “Arnold” couldn't grow up, so to speak. But we hung in with Arnold for a cool minute, we were there when Arnold was getting punked by "Tha Gooch", We were even there when “Willis” AKA Todd Bridges got to Kick it with Janet Jackson.
In tha end tho I wasn't pretty, By tha time “Arnold” was a Big Brother to tha little white boy, It was a wrap for Different Strokes. What ever charm or charisma Gary Coleman had faded into tha reality of a little short funny looking fat nigga that got cheated outta all of his money by his adopted parents: Tha very essence of tha Cold World Reality. I guesstimate that he endured a very grueling existence from age 18 until his Death at age 42.
We watched Todd Bridges become a smoked out Crack Head, We watched Dana Plato become a Trailer Park White Trash Bitch and then Die from and overdose. Then finally we watched Gary Coleman suffer humiliation after humiliation. I saw Gary Coleman disrespect tha rap game and try to become a Rapper, I actually saw that Nigga perform a song on Good Morning America (I think Kobe Bryant was just a little better with Tyra Banks on tha Hook). I saw Gary Coleman catch a case as a Security Guard because a Bitch was talking shit to him about falling off. I think recently he threatened to sue someone who had some explicit footage of him. One thing I did like about Old Gary Coleman was his Realness, I think he truly understood what was Real and spoke on it, In tha end he was a Bitter Old Real Muthafucka.
I thought when he ran for Governor of California that was a Gook Look, It was hopeless but I liked it. Rest in peace My Nigga, I know it was a tough go round, thanks for tha Childhood Memories.
